We are starting a new build in Cherokee County NC in January of 2016.
The thought of owning a new home is a dream come true for those who are selected by Macon County/Jackson County Habitat for Humanity.
What is a Habitat house?
Habitat for Humanity Houses: Simple, Decent, Affordable
Whether in the United States, Canada or in nearly 100 other countries around the world, Habitat for Humanity houses are built according to the same guiding principles. Habitat houses are:
- Simple. Habitat houses are modestly sized — large enough for the homeowner family’s needs, but small enough to keep construction and maintenance costs to a minimum.
- Decent. Habitat uses quality, locally available building materials. Trained staff supervise Habitat house construction and educate volunteers and partner families. House designs reflect the local climate and culture.
- Affordable. The labor of volunteers and partner families, efficient building methods, modest house sizes and a no-profit loan make it affordable for low-income people around the world to purchase a Habitat for Humanity house. Habitat’s Environmental Initiative Habitat for Humanity is committed to resource-and energy-efficient building practices. Habitat’s Environmental Initiative encourages the use sustainable construction techniques which conserve natural resources and reduce long-term costs for Habitat homeowners.
A special thanks to SECU. SECU is partnering with Habitat for Humanity to build 100 houses in North Carolina’s 100 counties over the next three years. Members for their board and local office attended the dedication.
